Besiegement Between Mars and Saturn
Hemmed between the hammer and the anvil. That is not a curse — that is literally how a blade gets made.

A traditional condition modern astrology abandoned, and one of the most genuinely afflicting placements in the book — the besieged planet is trapped with no clean exit in either direction.
How rare
Rare in strict form. True besiegement requires a planet enclosed between Mars and Saturn by degree with no intervening ray from Jupiter, Venus, or the lights — under 1% of charts for strict degree-based besiegement.
Orb & degree logic
Classical besiegement: the planet sits between Mars and Saturn within a 7°–15° window, with both malefics either flanking it in the same sign or casting rays from either side by degree, and — critically — no intervening ray from Jupiter, Venus, or the lights. Check the ray-casting version, which is the older and stricter technique.

What it feels like
You are held between the two hardest forces in the sky, and the planet caught in the middle lives its entire life under supervision from both a hot malefic and a cold one — pressure from the front, restriction from behind. Combustion — Any Planet Within 8°17' of the Sun
Seventeen minutes from the throne, you're a king. Nine degrees out, you're a shadow nobody can see.

A traditional condition of near-total functional debilitation that modern astrology renamed "conjunct the Sun" and thereby erased — the combust planet cannot operate independently at all.
How rare
Common in occurrence, systematically under-diagnosed. Mercury is combust in a very large share of charts; Venus frequently; the outer planets rarely and briefly.
Orb & degree logic
The precise traditional thresholds matter and should always be stated. Cazimi — within 17' of arc of the Sun's exact degree — is the opposite of debility: the planet is in the heart of the king and massively strengthened. Combust — beyond 17' and within 8°17' — is the debilitated zone.

Moderately common; roughly 4–6% of charts carry it within 5°, though tight sub-2° squares are notably rarer and much more pronounced.

Applying squares correlate with identity confusion that intensifies through the twenties and thirties; separating reads as an inherited family fog, often addiction or a parental figure who was absent, idealized, or mythologized.
